Jesus tells the story of a man who built bigger barns to store all his wealth. He thought he was secure. He told himself, “Take it easy! Eat, drink, and enjoy yourself!” But God had other plans. That very night, the man’s life would end. And then… what would all his riches mean?
This story may seem distant from our day-to-day family life, but it hits closer to home than we think.
💬 “Life is not found in what you own, but in whom you love.”
So often, as parents or caregivers, we work hard to provide. That’s beautiful. But sometimes we fall into the trap of over providing; thinking we need more things to make our children happy: the newest phone, the fanciest toys, the best car, the perfect house.
But children don’t remember what model TV was in the living room.
They remember who sat beside them to watch a film.
They remember the bedtime stories, the meal prayers, the laughs at dinner.
👨👩👧👦 Let’s Reflect as a Family: What Are We Really Building?
Jesus isn’t saying wealth is bad. He’s warning us: don’t build your life on things that won’t last.
-
Are we building bigger barns while our family grows more distant?
-
Do our kids know they are loved more than anything we could ever buy them?
-
Are we spending our best energy on people, not possessions?
We need a shift—from rich in stuff to rich in spirit.
💬 “The best family inheritance is faith, not finances.” – Pope Francis
Let’s pass down stories of grace, habits of prayer, and hearts full of generosity. Those are the treasures that last forever.
💡 Family Activity: The Gratitude Jar
Place a jar in the kitchen. Every day, each family member writes one thing they’re grateful for (big or small). At the end of the week, read them together. Watch how your hearts grow richer.
🙏 Family Prayer
Lord, teach us to treasure what truly matters. Help us to build a home that is rich in love, faith, and compassion. May we never chase after things that fade, but hold fast to the things that last: You, and each other. Amen.
📣 A Final Encouragement:
Don’t worry about having the perfect life. Worry about living it with purpose, together.
Your greatest wealth is already in your home. Treasure it. Grow it. Share it. ❤️
