Unveiling the Temptation: The Allure of Instant Gratification

Instant gratification refers to the immediate satisfaction or pleasure that one receives from a particular action, without having to wait or exert much effort. It often involves seeking immediate rewards or indulging in activities that provide instant pleasure or relief.

In today's fast-paced world, instant gratification has become increasingly prevalent due to various factors, including advances in technology and changes in social behaviour. Here are some examples of instant gratifications:

Online shopping: With just a few clicks, you can browse a vast range of products and have them delivered to your doorstep within a short time. This offers the instant gratification of acquiring desired items without the need to visit physical stores or wait for delivery for an extended period.

Social media and notifications: Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter provide instant gratification through likes, comments, and shares on your posts. Notifications from social media apps, emails, and messaging services also offer immediate feedback and attention.

Fast food and delivery services: Fast food chains and food delivery apps cater to the desire for quick, convenient meals. Ordering food and receiving it promptly satisfies hunger without the need for cooking or waiting.

Streaming services: Services like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube provide instant access to a vast library of movies, TV shows, and videos. This allows viewers to indulge in their favourite entertainment on-demand, without having to wait for scheduled broadcasts or go to a physical rental store.

Online gaming: Online games offer immediate rewards and gratification through achievements, level-ups, and virtual currencies. Players can experience a sense of accomplishment and progress within a short span of time.

While instant gratification can provide short-term pleasure, it is important to recognize that excessive reliance on it can have negative consequences. It can lead to impulsive decision-making, reduced attention span, and a diminished ability to delay gratification in more meaningful aspects of life, such as long-term goals, relationships, and personal growth. Finding a balance between instant gratification and delayed gratification is crucial for overall well-being and success.

Authentic Worship: Engaging Hearts and Honouring God

The true meaning of worship can be found in various passages of the Bible, particularly in the Old and New Testaments. Let's explore some key biblical principles that help us understand the essence of worship:

Loving God with all our heart:

In Mark 12:30, Jesus quotes the Shema from Deuteronomy 6:5, saying, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." True worship begins with a sincere and wholehearted love for God. It involves offering ourselves completely to Him, acknowledging His greatness, and desiring to honour and please Him in every aspect of our lives.

Reverence and awe:

Hebrews 12:28 reminds us, "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe." True worship involves approaching God with a deep sense of respect, reverence, and awe. We recognize His holiness, His majesty, and His infinite worthiness of our worship.

Spirit and truth:

In John 4:23-24, Jesus teaches, "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." True worship is not limited to external rituals but is a spiritual expression of our hearts. It involves engaging our spirits and being authentic in our worship, offering ourselves truthfully before God.

Sacrificial offering:

In Romans 12:1, the apostle Paul writes, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship." True worship is a response to God's mercy and grace. It involves surrendering ourselves to Him, sacrificing our own desires and ambitions, and aligning our lives with His will. It is a continual offering of ourselves to God, not just during formal worship gatherings but throughout our daily lives.

Communal worship:

In Hebrews 10:24-25, we are encouraged, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." True worship extends beyond individual acts of devotion. It involves coming together as a community of believers, supporting and encouraging one another in our worship of God.

In summary, the true meaning of worship, according to the Bible, involves loving God wholeheartedly, approaching Him with reverence and awe, worshiping in spirit and truth, offering ourselves as living sacrifices, and engaging in communal worship. By embracing these principles, we can cultivate a deeper and more meaningful worship experience that honors God and enriches our spiritual lives.

Exploring the Dopamine Rush: Understanding the Temptation of Instant Gratification

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that plays a crucial role in reward and pleasure pathways. It is often associated with feelings of motivation, pleasure, and reinforcement. Dopamine is released when we engage in rewarding activities or experience pleasurable stimuli, such as eating delicious food, receiving a compliment, or accomplishing a goal.

Instant gratification refers to the desire for immediate satisfaction or pleasure without delay or waiting. In today's fast-paced world, technology and modern conveniences have made it possible to obtain many things quickly and effortlessly. This can lead to a greater emphasis on seeking instant gratification.

The relationship between dopamine and instant gratification can be understood through the concept of reward prediction. When we anticipate a reward, such as the pleasurable feeling we get from accomplishing a task or indulging in a treat, dopamine levels in the brain increase. This motivates us to pursue the rewarding activity.

Instant gratification can trigger a surge of dopamine because it offers immediate rewards. Activities like scrolling through social media, binge-watching television shows, or online shopping can provide instant satisfaction and temporarily elevate dopamine levels. However, these rewards are often short-lived and can create a cycle of seeking more immediate gratification.

The pursuit of instant gratification can have implications for long-term well-being. Constantly seeking immediate rewards can lead to neglecting important responsibilities, procrastination, or developing addictive behaviours. It can also undermine efforts toward achieving long-term goals that require patience, persistence, and delayed gratification.

It's important to strike a balance between seeking immediate rewards and pursuing long-term goals. Developing strategies to delay gratification and cultivating patience can lead to more significant achievements and lasting satisfaction.

The Hidden Impact: Pornography and the Illusion of Instant Gratification

In today's digital age, where access to explicit content is just a few clicks away, the phenomenon of pornography has become increasingly pervasive. With its seductive allure and the promise of immediate satisfaction, pornography exemplifies the power of instant gratification. However, beneath the surface lies a complex web of psychological, social, and ethical implications. This article explores the impact of pornography on individuals and society, shedding light on the illusory nature of instant gratification.

The Allure of Instant Gratification:

Pornography feeds into the human desire for immediate pleasure. With its readily available content and easily consumable nature, it taps into our inherent inclination towards instant gratification. However, the fleeting pleasure it offers often comes at a steep cost.

The Psychological Effects:

Engaging in pornography can have profound psychological consequences. Frequent exposure to explicit content can lead to desensitization, distorted perceptions of intimacy, and unrealistic expectations about relationships and sexuality. Moreover, the addictive nature of pornography can hinder one's ability to form healthy connections and maintain a fulfilling sex life.

The Social Ramifications:

The widespread availability of pornography has raised concerns about its impact on society. From influencing attitudes towards consent and objectification to contributing to the commodification of sex, the repercussions of pornography extend beyond the individual level. Its accessibility has also raised questions about the age-appropriate exposure of young people and the potential for addiction and compulsive behaviour.

The Ethical Dilemma:

Behind the scenes of the pornography industry lie serious ethical concerns. Issues such as exploitation, human trafficking, and the violation of consent are prevalent in the production of explicit content. The instant gratification derived from consuming pornography can inadvertently perpetuate these injustices.

The Path Towards Healing:

Recognizing the harmful effects of pornography is the first step towards fostering a healthier relationship with sexuality. Open dialogue, education, and support systems are essential in addressing the negative impacts of pornography and promoting sexual well-being. Encouraging individuals to seek therapy, engage in meaningful connections, and cultivate a sense of self-worth beyond instant gratification can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life.

While pornography may offer the illusion of instant gratification, the repercussions it brings can be far-reaching. Understanding the psychological, social, and ethical dimensions of pornography is crucial for individuals and society to navigate its influence. By acknowledging the inherent pitfalls of instant gratification and promoting a more holistic approach to intimacy, we can strive towards healthier relationships, personal growth, and a more informed society.

Ġismi huwa tassew ikel, u demmi hu tassew xorb - Studju Bibbliku Ġw 6:51-58 - Solennità tal-Ġisem u d-Demm Imqaddes ta’ Kristu

F’dak iż-żmien, Ġesù qal lin-nies: “Jiena hu l-ħobż il-ħaj, li niżel mis-sema. Jekk xi ħadd jiekol minn dan il-ħobż jgħix għal dejjem. U l-ħobż li jiena nagħti huwa ġismi għall-ħajja tad-dinja”. Fuq hekk il-Lhud tlewmu bejniethom, u bdew jgħidu: “Kif jista’ dan jagħtina ġismu biex nikluh?”. Ġesù mela qalilhom: “Tassew, tassew ngħidilkom, jekk ma tiklux il-ġisem ta’ Bin il-bniedem u ma tixorbux demmu, ma jkollkomx il-ħajja fikom. Min jiekol ġismi u jixrob demmi għandu l-ħajja ta’ dejjem, u jiena nqajmu mill-imwiet fl-aħħar jum. Għax ġismi huwa tassew ikel, u demmi hu tassew xorb.

Min jiekol ġismi u jixrob demmi jibqa’ fija u jiena fih. Bħalma bagħatni l-Missier, li hu ħaj, u jiena ngħix b’Missieri, hekk ukoll min jiekol lili, hu wkoll jgħix bija. Dan huwa l-ħobż li niżel mis-sema; mhuwiex bħal dak li kielu missirjietkom u mietu; min jiekol dan il-ħobż jgħix għal dejjem”.

Il-festa ta’ Corpus twaqqfet wara li qamu ħafna disputi fuq il-preżenza ta’ Ġesu fl-Ewkaristija, u wara li bdew ħafna devozzjonijiet, xi wħud tajbin, imma oħrajn tbiegħdu mis-sens veru ta’ dal-misteru.

Għal din l-awtentiċita rridu mmorru għas-sors ta’ dan id-diskors, u għall-ġest li għamel Ġesu fl-Aħħar Ċena. Sinifikattiv ħafna l-fatt li Ġesu ma waqqafx dan is-Sagrament f’kuntest reliġjuż, fit-Tempju jew f’xi sinagoga, imma f’kuntest pjuttost profan – waqt ikla.

Irridu nfarfru t-trab u nnaddfu s-sadid li trabba matul is-sekli fuq dan is-suġġett. Dan il-kliem Ġesu qalu fis-sinagoga ta’ Kafarnaum. Kien għadu kif tema’ l-5000 ruħ bil-ħobż. “Jien Hu l-ħobż li niżel mis-sema. Jekk xi ħadd jiekol minn dan il-ħobż jgħix għal dejjem.” Din l-eternita’ ma tfissirx it-tul tal-ħin jew taż-żmien, imma tfisser il-Ħajja tal-Etern. Min jitqarben jirċievi u jibda jgħix il-ħajja tal-Etern, il-Ħajja Divina.

Ġwanni juża’ żewġ verbi: “fagejn” li tfisser “tiekol” u li jużaha ħdax-il darba f’dan il-kapitlu; “trogejn” li tfisser “tomgħod, titħan” li jużaha erba’ darbiet (Kemm morna żmerċ meta kienu jgħidulna li jekk tigdem l-ostja tagħmel dnub). Mela nomogħdu mhux nibilgħu: bħal meta wieħed iwissik u int ikollok bżonn tomgħod dak li qallek biex jinżillek sew u jħalli effett fik.

Imbagħad Ġwanni juża’ l-verb “tixrob” tliet darbiet. Dawn huma verbi konkreti li jgħaddulna l-messaġġ li, l-ewwel u qabel kollox, l-Ewkaristija mhux qiegħda hemm biex noqogħdu nħarsu lejha, nikkontemplawha jew nadurawha, imma biex nikluha u nixorbuha. Ġesu jrid li, kif il-ħobż u ikel ieħor jiġi assimilat mill-ġisem, hekk ukoll Hu jixtieq li jiġi assimilat fina. Mela ejjew nevitaw diskors bħal meta ngħidu li Ġesu hu priġunier fit-Tabernaklu, u ħa noqgħodu ħdejH ħa nżommulu kumpannija u nikkunslawH. Dan hu kliem bla sens.

L-anqas tagħna l-Ewkaristija biex jibqa’ viċin tagħna. Ġesu dejjem qrib tagħna, mhux fl-Ewkaristija biss. Mela, L-EWKARISTIJA QIEGĦDA BIEX NIKLUHA. Qed nisħaq fuq dan għax kien Ġesu stess li saħaq fuq dan għal ħmistax-il darba.

Is-silta tal-lum hija l-konklużjoni tad-diskors kollu. Ġesu jħabbar li aktar tard se jwaqqaf dan is-sagrament. Il-kelma Tiegħu flimkien mal-Ġisem Tiegħu se jsiru ikel għall-bniedem. Dan hu ikel li ma jispiċċax, imma jibqa’ ħaj biex jagħti l-ħajja lil min jirċevieh. Din hi l-Ħajja tal-Etern, li trid tkompli dejjem tikber u tiżviluppa permezz tal-Kelma ta’ Ġesu. Inkella tikber biss il-ħajja bijoloġika. L-Iben t’Alla, l-Etern li jiġi ġo fina jrid jikber billi nilqgħu l-Kelma Tiegħu, il-Messaġġ Tiegħu, l-Evanġelju.

Min sema’ dan id-diskors żgur ftakar fil-Kliem: “Il-bniedem mhux bil-ħobż biss jgħix imma b’kull Kelma li toħroġ minn fomm Alla.” Issa dil-“Kelma” ġiet inkarnata fil-persuna ta’ Ġesu. B’hekk in-nies mhux biss semgħu il-Kelma, imma raw l-Awtur tal-Kelma, l-Iben t’Alla.

U l-ħobż li jiena nagħti huwa Ġismi għall-ħajja tad-dinja.” Hawn Ġesu għadu mhux qed jitkellem fuq l-Ewkaristija. Jidħol f’dan is-suġġett bil-mod il-mod.

Fil-ħsieb semitiku, “ġisem” ifisser il-persuna bid-difetti u dgħufija tagħha, destinata għall-mewt. Ġesu wkoll ħa ġisem destinat għall-mewt. Il-messaġġ li ġabilna mis-sema hu preżenti fiH u qed isostni l-fraġilita Tiegħu bħala bniedem. In-nies fehmu li Ġesu qed jgħidilhom biex jaċċettaw il-messaġġ Tiegħu biss. Allura issa Ġesu jintroduċi l-Ewkaristija. Jitkellem ċar u jixxokkja l-mentalita’ Semitika tal-Lhud.

Fis-sewwa fis-sewwa ngħidilkom, jekk ma tiklux il-ġisem ta’ Bin il-bniedem u ma tixorbux demmu, ma jkollkomx il-ħajja fikom.” Li Lhudi jixrob id-demm kienet ħaġa ripunjanti ħafna. Mela hemm bżonn immorru għall-Aħħar Ċena fejn Ġesu ħa ftit ħobż u qal: “Dan hu ġismi (Ġwanni biss jgħid “laħmi”)”, i.e. mhux daqstant li l-ħobż isir il-Ġisem ta’ Ġesu daqskemm Ġesu isir ħobż biex jagħmilha possibbli biex nikluH. Fil-fatt ħajtu kollha kienet rigal ta’ ħobż biex imantnina. X’se nagħmlu b’dan ir-rigal mibdul taħt l-ispeċi ta’ ħobż u nbid? Nikluh biex isostnina u jqawwina fil-vjaġġ tagħna.

Dan hu ġismi,” jiġifieri, “Dan hu Jien.” L-Appostli ma fehmu xejn dak in-nhar. Fehmu aktar tard. Noqogħdu attenti kif inkellmu lill-oħrajn, l-aktar lit-tfal, fuq l-Ewkaristija. Hawn min jgħallem li fl-ostja kkonsagrata hemm Ġesu bil-laħam, id-demm u l-għadam ; dan kollu moħbi taħt forma ta’ ħobż. Aħjar ngħidu sempliċiment li Ġesu sar ħobż għalina biex inkunu nistgħu nikluh. Imma min jitqarben irid ikun ippreparat biex jassimila t-tagħlim kollu ta’ Ġesu u jfassal ħajtu fuqu. Kull tqarbina titlob impenn serju.
…. u jixrob demmi.” Hemm bżonn li kulħadd jifhem kemm hu mportanti li nitqarbnu bl-inbid ukoll, imqar billi nbillu l-ostja biex inħarsu l-iġjene. Almenu kull nhar ta’ Ħadd. Għax id-demm ifisser il-ħajja.

Meta Mose’ ppreżenta l-għaxar Kmandamenti lill-poplu, qabad ftit demm u raxx ftit fuq l-artal u ftit fuq il-poplu. B’hekk ġedded il-patt bejn Alla u l-poplu, fejn Alla wiegħed li jkun Alla tagħhom u huma se jkunu l-poplu fidil Tiegħu. Id-demm kien simbolu li Alla u l-poplu kellhom jaqsmu (sharing) ħajja waħda, demm wieħed. Mela anki aħna, meta nixorbu d-demm ta’ Kristu, inkunu qed nixxerjaw ħajja waħda, spirtu wieħed.

Min jiekol ġismi u jixrob demmi jibqa’ jgħammar fija, u jien ngħammar fih.” Waqt tieġ, l-għarus isaqsi l-għarusa tridx tgħaqqad ħajjitha ma’ ħajtu. Hi ssaqsi l-istess. Jagħtu ċ-ċrieket, sinjal ta’ mħabba bla tarf li għandhom għal xulxin.

Jiżżewġu u “t-tnejn isiru ġisem wieħed.” Dan wara li jkunu saru jafu sew minn qabel lil xulxin. Tqarbina tajba titlob li nkunu sirna nafu sew min hu Ġesu permezz tal-Kelma Tiegħu. Qisu Ġesu qed jgħidli: “Issa li sirt tafni sew, kul dan il-ħobż, ixrob dan l-inbid, biex inkunu nistgħu naqsmu ħajjitna flimkien.

Kont taf li Ġesù talab għalik ? Taf x'talab ?

Ġesù talab għalijja wkoll !!

Fl-evanġelju ta' San Ġwann insibu miktub hekk: Ġw:17:20 "M'iniex nitlob għal dawn biss ..." dawn biss  Ġesù qiegħed jirreferi għall-appostli u jkompli "...  imma wkoll għal dawk li għad jemmnu fija ...".

Min huma dawk li għad jemmnu fiH ?  Dawk li għad jemmnu fiH huma aħna, li kif permezz tal-ħidma tal-appostli u l-knisja u bil-qawwa tal-Ispirtu s-Santu għandna waslet il-kelma tiegħU, kif ikompli dan il-vers "... bis-saħħa tal-kelma tagħhom; ..."

X'qed jitlob Ġesù ?

Il-vers ikompli: Ġw:17:21 "...nitolbok li jkunu lkoll ħaġa waħda" Ġesù jitlob lil Missier sabiex aħna nkunu magħqudin u hawnhekk iġib l-eżempju tar-relazzjoni tiegħu mal-missier "...bħalma aħna ħaġa waħda..."

Xi tfisser din l-għaqda ?

Din l-għaqda bejn Ġesù u l-Missier tfisser u turi b'mod konkret li Ġesù huwa tassew Alla ħaj fostna. Il-Missier jew Alla, bħall ma ħafna nirreferu għaliH, huwa il-forza jew qawwa pura u perfetta tal-imħabba. Din l-Imħabba perfetta għandha tkompli tkun iċ-ċentru sabiex tkompli ssostni u tgħaqqad lillna l-bnedmin mingħajr distinzjoni.

"Jiena fihom u inti fija, biex isiru ħaġa waħda għalkollox, ħalli d-dinja tagħraf li inti bgħattni u li ħabbejt lilhom kif ħabbejt lili. Missier, irrid li dawk li tajtni jkunu huma wkoll miegħi fejn inkun jien, biex jaraw il-glorja tiegħi, il-glorja li tajtni int, għaliex int ħabbejtni sa minn qabel il-ħolqien tad-dinja. Missier ġust, tassew li d-dinja ma għarfitekx, imma jien għaraftek, u dawn għarfu li inti bgħattni. U jiena għarrafthom ismek u għad ngħarrafhulhom iżjed, biex l-imħabba li biha ħabbejtni tkun fihom u jiena fihom."

Overcoming Doubt and Unbelief

Today, we're going to explore an important aspect of our faith journey: overcoming doubts and unbelief. Doubts and questions are not something to be ashamed of; they are a normal part of our relationship with God. In fact, they can serve as catalysts for spiritual growth and a deeper understanding of our faith. So, let's dive into this topic and discover how we can strengthen our belief in God, even in the midst of doubt.

I. Acknowledging Doubts:

Doubts as a normal part of faith: Let's start by acknowledging that doubts and questions are not signs of weak faith, but rather an invitation for growth. Just like the disciples and heroes of faith in the Bible, we may have moments of uncertainty or struggle with certain aspects of our beliefs.

Open and honest conversations: It's essential to create a safe space where doubts can be shared without judgment or condemnation. Encourage young people to express their doubts openly, whether through discussions, journaling, or seeking guidance from trusted mentors or youth leaders.

II. Seeking Answers:

Prayer: Prayer is a powerful tool to connect with God and seek His guidance. Encourage youth to bring their doubts before God, honestly expressing their questions and seeking His wisdom and understanding.

Bible study: The Bible is a rich source of truth and wisdom. Encourage young people to engage in regular Bible study, examining passages that address their specific doubts or areas of unbelief. Help them discover how God's Word offers answers and guidance for their lives.

Seeking wise counsel: Encourage youth to seek guidance from mature believers, pastors, or trusted mentors who can provide insights and perspective. Remind them that seeking counsel does not indicate weakness but demonstrates a desire for growth and understanding.

III. Strengthening Belief:

Reflecting on personal experiences: Encourage young people to reflect on their personal experiences of God's presence, guidance, and faithfulness in their lives. Remind them of the times when God has answered their prayers, provided comfort, or intervened in remarkable ways.

Building a foundation of faith: Help youth establish a solid foundation for their faith by grounding themselves in the core teachings of Christianity. Encourage them to explore the life and teachings of Jesus, the evidence for the resurrection, and the historical reliability of the Bible.

Community support: Emphasize the importance of surrounding themselves with a supportive faith community. Being part of a community that encourages and uplifts one another can provide strength and assurance during times of doubt.

Conclusion:

Doubts and unbelief can be challenging, but they are not insurmountable. As we journey through our faith, let's embrace our doubts as opportunities for growth and seek answers through prayer, Bible study, and seeking wise counsel. Remember that God is not afraid of our doubts; rather, He invites us to draw closer to Him, to discover His truth, and to experience the depth of His love and faithfulness. So, let's embark on this journey together, supporting one another as we navigate our doubts and strengthen our belief in God.
